Happy MakeupLicious: The perfect bronzed beauty

legs

This is the second post in our ‘Happy MakeupLicious’ series, where we let you in the secrets on applying bronzer like a pro. Our featured cosmetic technician is Muskaan Ahuja, a gorgeous Certified Professional Make Up Artist and Special Effects from ESMOD University Dubai.

In this post she shares her trade secrets for the art of bronzing.  Many celebrities end up as front-page news for their bronzer disasters, the latest victim being Catherine Zeta Jones. Even a bronzer pro like Pippa Middleton, who has been dubbed by British media to have created the ‘middletan effect’, has had her share of  ‘too orange’ royal tan disasters.

So why does everyone still brave dangerous waters like bronzing? Simple, it’s the ultimate look for a fashion and style diva, a sun kissed glow. Summery bronze skin is sexy and sporting it all year round is the hallmark of a true style diva. However the aim is to be a golden beauty not orange faced!

How to avoid the ‘FAKE TAN’ look?

Aim for one shade darker than your current skin tone, anything more and you are setting the stage for being labelled, ‘Fake Bake’. Also if you are pale skinned try investing in a body lotion that builds up a gradual tan, all over your body. Sporting a bronze face with a pale body is a fashion faux pas you really should avoid.

Wait approximately 10 mins after moisturising your face before you apply makeup, especially a bronzer, as it won’t blend evenly. A lot of bronzers tend to have orange undertones, try to go with a nude-brown undertone.

Our Dubai based expert, Muskaan Ahuja, a professional Makeup and Special effect Artist shows you how to become a woman that knows how to apply a bronzer and look good.  She lists out four simple rules that can turn you into a sun kissed goddess.

“When it comes to bronzing, you either know how to do it or you don’t, “ Muskaan says of the art of bronzing, “and when you don’t, it really looks bad!”

Her simple 4 rules step is as follows:

Rule 1 – Bronzer should look natural, so match it to your décolleté or upper arm. Which is a true match of your most tanned areas.

Rule 2- Apply bronzer to your face in the same direction as the sun naturally hits it. Apply downward strokes, hitting your T-zone, cheekbones and chin.

Rule 3 – Never use bronzer to contour your face. You may see this look in fashion shoots in magazines, but it doesn’t work in real life.

“Always accessorise with a smile,” says Muskaan. “A smile is the best make-up you can wear every day! ”
